Dragonriding is one of the newest features in Dragonflight that players will want to max out. How can gamers upgrade their flying experience in the game?
Dragonflight brings a new feature that many fans will enjoy. To explore the vast Dragon Isles, heroes must learn Dragonriding, allowing them to soar to the skies on a different level. This feature is added to your standard flying mount since many mechanics are involved. After buying your first drake with WoW gold, gamers should also learn the ins and outs of Dragonriding.
How does Dragonriding Work?
Dragonflight introduces a flight mechanic that is exclusive to the Dragon Isles. Dragonriding differs from normal flying because it integrates other dynamics, such as specific WoW mounts, momentum, and gravity. This feature is mostly gliding and boosting rather than actual flying. Players can improve their speed, which is the main attribute that characters should invest in.
Dragonriding is much faster than regular flying and has a unique way of leveling up. This feature allows players to access otherwise inaccessible areas via regular flights. One particular mechanic in the game is using a resource called Vigor. This pool is the one that Drakes will use when executing certain maneuvers. Vigor can be regenerated while on the ground or while at high speed. The base resource pool starts at three, which players can increase by leveling up their Dragonriding.
How to Unlock Dragonriding?
Unlocking the Dragonflight exclusive feature is relatively easy and will take a little time. Upon entering the region, Alliance and Horde players must complete several introductory questlines. Following this series of missions will eventually reward heroes with their first Dragon Isles Drake.
Gamers should note that the Dracthyr-Evoker class does not have access to Dragonriding. They have their personalized way of getting around the isles using their Soar skill. This also means that the Dragonoid cannot access the Dragonriding progression.
All Dragonriding Abilities
Vigor is consumed by using various abilities available to Dragonriding. These moves can increase and enhance the flight experience of the players. However, acquiring these skills is complex since heroes are required to complete specific MSQ tasks. These missions will need players to visit all four major zones in the Dragon Isles.
Several abilities are already available at the beginning of your journey, including passives. The other four skills will be unlocked upon visiting the required zones. Here are all the essential or unlockable moves for Dragonriding:
Basic Skills
- Dragonriding Basic – Allows players to control their flight while riding specific drakes. Drakes can spread their wings and move forward after falling from a high place. Diving generates momentum, which can be used to propel forward when evening out. At a certain point, players will start falling slowly to the ground.
- Vigor – The resource pool used to execute specific abilities.
- Lift Off – Double jump to propel yourself upward and start gliding while riding a Dragonriding mount.
- Surge Forward – Propel yourself forward over a short distance.
- Skyward Ascent – Propel yourself upward for additional elevation at the cost of momentum.
- Thrill of the Skies – Generate 1 Vigor every 15 seconds during high speeds Dragonriding.
Unlockable Skills
- Winds of the Isles – Detect gale winds and allow you to use them to propel yourself and redirect your flight path, which can boost your speed. (Unlocked in Ohn’ahran Plains)
- Whirling Surge – Increase your speed by spiraling forward a great distance. (Unlocked in Azure Span)
- Bronze Timelock – Designate a waypoint on your positional timeline. (Unlocked in Thaldraszus)
- Bronze Rewind – Return to your designated spot of your Timelock.
Tips for Utilizing Dragonriding Abilities
- Dive Down to Fly Up – Everything in Dragonriding relies on momentum. To sustain your flight, you need to ensure you have enough power to boost yourself or propel upwards. Before you perform any maneuvers, generating momentum first would be a good idea, so avoid climbing into higher altitudes right after jumping off the ground.
- Go Up to Go Down – Unlike regular flying mounts, you do not entirely halt when you need to drop in a specific place. If you want to land or stop flying, the best way to do so is to ascend. You lose momentum by going up, which will decrease your flight speed. After slowing down, you can start descending and glide toward your destination.
- Use Ledges to Jumpstart Flights – Cliffs and Ledges are your friends, especially when you have just started Dragonriding. These platforms will allow you to fall and dive to gain enough momentum to fly. This is more effective than using your Lift Off ability.
- Take Advantage of Bronze Timelock – As of the moment, Timelock has an unlimited range. This means players can use it to get to and from places very quickly. However, the cooldown is quite long, so players should be careful about where and when they use it.
Dragonriding Talents
At the beginning of your Dragonrider journey, the feature might feel a bit heavy and clunky. However, you will begin to experience the joys of flying as you level up and unlock more perks from the Talent Tree. Upgrading your passives will further increase your Vigor and expertise in Dragonriding. Here are all the Talents currently available or known ones for this feature:
- Drake and Rider Training – Increase the Vigor cap to four.
- Dynamic Stretching – Accelerate your Vigor regen by one per 25 seconds while grounded.
- Thrill Chaser – Using Thrill of the Skies now generates one Vigor every ten seconds.
- Ohn’ahra’s Gust – Surge Forward can now block projectiles.
- Dragonrider’s Compassion – Provide shields and a bonus 20% movement speed for 5 seconds to allies after dismounting.
- Dragonrider’s Initiative – Damage and slow nearby enemies by 30% for 5 secs after dismounting.
- Restorative Travels – Accelerate your Vigor regen by one per 20 seconds while grounded.
- Airborne Tumbling – Whirling Surge can be used to dismount enemies in flight.
- Draconic Cultivation – Increase your Vigor regen rate by 10% for 10 sec when you acquire herbs and minerals.
- Dragonrider’s Hunt – Increase your Vigor regen rate by 10% for 3 secs when you defeat an enemy.
- Dragonriding Learner – Increase the Vigor cap to five.

- Yearning for the Sky - Accelerate your Vigor regen by one per 15 seconds while grounded.
- At Home Aloft: Thrill of the Skies – Using Thrill of the Skies now generates 1 Vigor every 5 seconds.
It is highly recommended that players max out their Talent Tree as soon as possible. Investing immediately in this feature will tremendously help heroes in their travels.
