Warner Bros. just made a big mistake by using footage from Justice League in the trailer for Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Rather than making fans excited, the highly anticipated Shazam 2 trailer dredged up old arguments that the studio would have done well to avoid approaching. And, instead of building hype for the upcoming Shazam! sequel, the trailer's release led to #BoycottWB and similar hashtags trending on social media at the height of San Diego Comic-Con 2022.
It is already no secret that the DC Extended Universe panel at SDCC 2022 was widely viewed as a disappointment. At the same time Marvel Studios was announcing plans for upcoming films and television series into 2025, the DCEU panel was firmly focused upon WB's cinematic superhero offerings scheduled for the second half of 2022, Black Adam and Shazam! Fury of the Gods. It seemed like Warner Bros. was trying to start fresh and avoid any reference to the recent scandals involving both The Flash and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which are believed to be responsible for the release of these movies being delayed until 2023. Unfortunately for WB, the first trailer for Shazam! Fury of the Gods found an entirely different way to upset those fans hoping for a surprise announcement regarding the return of the Snyderverse.
