For how expansive and impressive Red Dead Redemption 2 is on a technical scale, the game does have some shortcomings. Given the sheer scale of the world, content, and user agency present within Red Dead Redemption 2, it's unsurprising that some glitches and bugs would slip through the cracks during development. However, this most recent glitch one player encountered had some rather severe consequences.
While the glitches and bugs present within Red Dead Redemption 2 aren't as prominent or consistent as those in something like Cyberpunk 2077, for instance, when they do occur, they are often unexpected and hilarious. Many players have encountered the infamous bridge glitch in Red Dead Redemption 2 that can cause in-game bridges to shake violently and send players flying into the air. Though, in this most recent case, the player got sent all the way back to the beginning of the game.

Over on Reddit, a user named edo2502 posted a clip where after being attacked and killed by a wolf during free roam, the opening cutscene of Red Dead Redemption 2 started playing. With any luck, the game's autosave featured managed to keep the player's progress, but getting sent back to the very beginning of Red Dead Redemption 2, especially depending on how far the player got in the game, would be quite terrifying.
It's unclear as to what exactly caused this glitch to occur. There could possibly be an issue with free roam in terms of Red Dead Online, but seeing as it sent the player all the way back to the very first cutscene of the single-player campaign, it's hard to know for sure what exactly caused such an unexpected glitch.
