Ubisoft says it will attend E3 2023 ‘if it happens’
Ubisoft has confirmed it intends to attend the revamped E3 expo in Los Angeles this year, ‘if it happens’.
Speaking during an earnings call on Thursday, the company’s CEO, Yves Guillemot, said: “If E3 happens, we will be there and we will have a lot of things to show.”
It’s not clear why Guillemot was alluding to apparent uncertainty around this year’s E3 taking place.
Details of E3’s revamped 2023 format, which will see separate business and consumer events split between four days in June, were revealed late last year.
And just last month, new E3 organiser ReedPop told VGC that it had received “a tremendous amount of interest” from many of “the biggest companies in the industry” and that it was confident the line-up would be worth the trip.
Ubisoft declined to comment on this story.
The Assassin’s Creed publisher’s commitment to backing E3 comes following reports that Sony and Nintendo will not be attending this year’s event. Historically, Ubisoft has been a staunch supporter of E3 and hasn’t missed a show for the last 20 years.
There’s also been uncertainty around Microsoft’s plans for the event.
Microsoft will have some form of presence in Los Angeles this year with an already-announced summer showcase. However, according to IGN, the Xbox firm will not have a show floor presence at the Los Angeles Convention Center itself.
The same publication claimed the Xbox parent could partner with E3’s organiser to hold a separate event away from the LACC ahead of the event, which matches with what VGC has heard from our own sources.
E3 2023 will officially run from Tuesday, June 13, until Friday, June 16, according to organiser ReedPop, which has taken over the running of the flagship industry event from the Entertainment Software
