Despite the cost of living continuing to rise, another publisher has announced that its big name games will cost £70 in the future.
Even before the current energy crisis started to bite, video games were already slowly creeping up in price, with Sony setting the pace by making all its major first party PlayStation 5 games £70.
They weren’t the only ones though, with big name titles such as FIFA, Call Of Duty, and NBA 2K – from EA, Activision, and Take-Two – also costing £70 on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Now Ubisoft is joining the club, with CEO Yves Guillemot stating that, ‘Some of [Ubisoft’s] games will come at the same price as the competition.’ He then clarified that this meant: ‘The big AAA games will come at $70.’
He didn’t say anything about prices other than in the US but Since Skull And Bones has been given a £70 price tag in the UK it seems clear that’s what it means for British gamers, despite $70 being £60.
Skull And Bones is a next gen only title but it’s unclear whether the recently announced Assassin’s Creed Mirage would also be £70, since it’s also a last gen title and has been described as smaller in scale than other Assassin’s Creed games.
It and Avatar: Frontiers Of Pandora don’t have release dates yet, so when they do it should be easier to judge what exactly Ubisoft classifies as ‘big AAA’.
Guillemot made his comments to Axios but didn’t elaborate further and it’s only assumption at the moment, that the price rise does not include Xbox One and PlayStation 4 titles.
The change doesn’t seem to affect Nintendo Switch prices though, as Mario + Rabbids Sparks Of Hope is still down as £50.
