Twitter down: Just days before the new year, Elon Musk-led Twitter has suffered a major outage. The microblogging website became inaccessible for thousands of users, creating frustrations. It is reported that the outage was a regional one and largely was contained within the US, although some other regions too might have been affected. Indian servers were found to be functioning normally during the outage. The issue also did not appear to affect app usage and was restricted for only the website users. The issue is yet to be resolved by the platform.
According to the online outage monitoring website Downdetector.com, more than 10,000 reports appeared at around 5:30 AM IST in the morning of December 29, most originating from different locations in the US and Canada. As of writing this, the issue is still persisting but the number of reports have come down. The official Twitter handle of Downdetector noted in a tweet, “User reports indicate Twitter is having problems since 7:13 PM EST”.
Several users reported issues ranging from not being able to access the website entirely to not being able to refresh the newsfeed. Even the users who were able to log in eventually faced issues in getting notifications on the website.
A user tweeted, “I got on Twitter about 30 min ago and suddenly my screen went black. My phone and other apps are working fine. Still getting a black screen when trying to load Twitter now. I live in Canada”. The tweet was sent from an app, which was not affected by the outage.
Another user added, “App seems fine, but I can't get on on computer. Keep getting "error" and option to refresh - which doesn't help”.
It was also reported by some users that by 9 AM, they were able to access the platform but in-site issues
