For as much drama going on over at Warner Bros. Discovery, some projects are still in the works. Among them is Colin Farrell's The Batman spinoff centered on the Penguin. In an interview with ExtraTV, he offered up a few tidbits of information about the upcoming series. Beware spoilers for The Batman.
"[The show] starts about a week after the film The Batman ends, so Gotham is still somewhat underwater," Farrell said, referring to the film's climactic ending. «I read the script for the first episode, and it opens up with my feet splashing through water in Falcone's office. Even just that alone, I read it, I was like, 'Oh, jeez.'»
Farrell calls the script lovely and «so well-written» in the interview, and commends showrunner Lauren LeFranc.
«She's writing the whole thing and showrunning, and she's formidable,» he continued. «It's just a very exciting prospect because I love that character and I was greedy with it. I felt like I didn't have enough.»
Farrell impressed viewers with the extensive makeup needed for him to become the iconic Batman villain, and he's described playing the character as being a joy, and one he'd jump at the opportunity to reprise.
The Penguin show is still very early in development, as filming for the show is set to begin in 2023. We can likely expect the show itself to premiere in late 2023 at the earliest.
