Gamescom is taking place from August 23-August 28, with Opening Night Live on August 23 showcasing a ton of upcoming games. That's hardly the only event coming soon, as there will likely be a PlayStation Showcase in September, the Disney and Marvel Games Showcase on September 9, and more beyond that. For many fans, The Game Awards may seem like something that has always been around, especially since it grew out of the canceled Spike Game Awards, but it started standing on its own two feet in 2014. This means this year's event will be the ninth since its inception, and new details regarding said event now been revealed, so fans can play accordingly.
Starfield Will Be At Gamescom, But Fans Shouldn't Get Their Hopes Up
The Game Awards will take place in the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles come December 8. Fans can expect new game premieres and new rewards, though obviously exact details, length, nominees, and such have yet to be decided. Many think the GOTY winner will come down to Elden Ring vs. God of War Ragnarok, though with the latter not out yet, it's obviously far too early to make that judgment call.
Alongside its standard array of categories comes a new one: Best Adaptation. This will recognize «creative work that authentically adapts video game intellectual property to other popular media, including but not limited to theatrical movies, streaming shows, podcasts, novels, and comic books.» It seems this stems from some of the reveals last year, where the first trailer for Sonic 2 and the first full trailer for the Halo series were revealed.
