Eric Barone's first published project, Stardew Valley, is a farming simulator that was first released on Windows back in 2016. It became an instant hit and reached astounding numbers in sales in a short amount of time. ConcernedApe, Eric Barone's alias and the name of his game development company, was the only developer working on the game until 2019. He has since brought on several other developers to keep the game updated, but only after working on the game on his own for seven years. This includes doing all of the art, sound effects, music, writing, and programming by himself.

Eric Barone recently had a livestream to discuss the soundtrack of Stardew Valley, only to also drop several music themes for Haunted Chocolatier. The first is a lively and upbeat buzzy track Barone called «beeboss,» hinting that players will fight a bee enemy at some point in the game. This was a double surprise, as Barone had yet to reveal that Haunted Chocolatier's combat would include boss battles. This already takes Haunted Chocolatier one step further away from Stardew Valley, as Stardew only has hordes of small enemies to fight. The other song Barone shared was titled «Pristine Snow,» which was a more peaceful yet somber melody. This song felt more familiar to his work in Stardew Valley, and he stated
