Released back in 2011, Star Trek: Online is an online MMORPG developed by Cryptic Studios and based on the Star Trek franchise. The game is set 30 years after the events of Star Trek: Nemesis in the TNG storyline. Star Trek: Picard season 2 has finally premiered, and with it comes the benefits of a new canon for the series. With several new ships now being brought into the canon by the show, Star Trek: Online has started its own celebration for fans.
In a tweet from the Star Trek Online official Twitter, it was announced that four original ships had become canon in the Star Trek: Picard season 2 premiere and to celebrate, there will be a sale on these ships in the game, among other things. A link in the tweet to the Arc Games website cites the ships as the Sutherland, Gagarin, Reliant, and Ross (Inquiry class) all original to the Star Trek Online. All ships were present in a shot of many starships in the premiere of season 2 of Star Trek: Picard in collaboration between the show and the game. The website's post also details the sale in the game to celebrate this.

Further expanding the canon of Star Trek is a huge undertaking and definitely something worth celebrating. The franchise has such deep lore that continues in each series and beyond in the novels and graphic novels. Having original ships from the most notable Star Trek game out there is groundbreaking in acknowledging the legitimacy of at least a few parts of the MMORPG as a real piece of the Star Trek lore. Star Trek Online has been known as a pretty accessible MMO for newcomers and seasoned players alike with this news possibly bringing more new players to the game
