Sony and Honda could include PS5 consoles in electric cars
A new joint venture from Sony and Honda could see the pair release electric cars featuring built-in PS5 hardware.
The heads of Sony Honda Mobility, which was established in September, told the Financial Times that they plan to use music, movies and gaming to build electric cars built around a premium entertainment experience.
“Sony has content, services and entertainment technologies that move people. We are adapting these assets to mobility, and this is our strength against Tesla,” said president Izumi Kawanishi.
“Tesla is not providing any content services,” he said, adding that it was “technologically possible” to integrate the PS5 platform into their cars.
Sony Honda Mobility intends to launch its first electric vehicle model in North America by 2025. Ultimately, the joint venture also hopes to release fully self-driving vehicles.
“To enjoy the space in your car, you have to make it a space where you don’t need to drive,” said Kawanishi. “The solution for this is autonomous driving.”
