Sonic Frontiers has received its first age rating, hinting that its official release date could be coming soon. This comes as other games set to launch within the same release window have received a set date, leaving Sonic fans worrying that Frontiers will be hit with a delay.
The rating, which approves Sonic Frontiers for all ages, suggests that Sega is still aiming for its broad holiday 2022 release window, and is making the final preparation needed before it can give us a firm date. This backs up Sonic Teams' earlier comments about not delaying its planned 2022 launch, even if fans have been pushing for it to get some more time in the oven.

This development, which was spotted by My Nintendo News, doesn't give away too much about the upcoming 3D platformer. However, it does reveal that it will be totally appropriate for all audiences, with the rating board not giving the game a single content warning.
Hopefully, this update means that final-ish copies of the game are out there in the hands of rating boards, and therefore almost ready to launch. The summer is quickly coming to an end, and it would be strange to enter autumn - just months away from the game's launch at that point - without a firm release date.
Of course, if recent developments on SteamDB are to be believed, we already have the release date. The platforms first had the launch down for November 8, before suddenly pushing that back to December 3. While a delay of a month might disappoint fans, it's probably for the best - God of War Ragnarok is launching November 9. And hey, I love the blue blur too, but I don't fancy his chances against Kratos.
