Rumor: Next-Gen Nvidia RTX 4090 Could Require 600W of Power
Technology seems to move so fast, and while the next generation of GPU hardware is approaching towards the latter part of this year, it doesn't seem that long ago that the AMD's RNDA 2 or Nvidia Ampere products were fresh off the production line. But with the RTX 3090 Ti coming out this month and team red also potentially unveiling some new cards, there's still a window of opportunity for the tech giants to squeeze out more hardware in this generation. But as the technology becomes more sophisticated and powerful, it also means that GPUs will start to require a lot more power.
According to a recent report from Videocardz, which references tweets from both Greymon55 and kopite7kimi, who are known leakers of graphics card information, the supposed upcoming Nvidia RTX 4090 could sap a lot of juice. Allegedly, it seems that the TGP, or total graphics power, could have the card requiring 600W of power, which is more power than PC gamers are currently used to. However, as always, there will be cooling options to go with that to take some of the heat off, as it were.

To put that into some perspective, the Nvidia RTX 3090 graphics card, one of the most powerful on the market today, requires 350W, while the soon-to-be-released 3090 Ti, a more souped-up version, will ask for 450W. Comparing it to the competition, AMD's RX 7900 XT, which is allegedly releasing towards the end of this year, could require up to 480W at the most. This means, whatever team green is currently cooking up for the rumored September launch could be the hottest graphics card to hit the market, in terms of sheer power usage.
