The specifications for the upcoming JioPhone 5G from Reliance have reportedly been leaked. Jio is expected to be one the first 5G telecom operators in India and the upcoming JioPhone 5G will make owning a 5G smartphone highly affordable, according to reports. JioPhone 5G could be announced as early as August 29 during the Annual General Meeting of Reliance Industries Limited.
According to a report by the Times of India, the JioPhone 5G might be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 chipset, paired with up to 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. A 2GB RAM variant is also expected to be launched. According to the report, the smartphone is expected to have a 6.5-inch HD+ IPS LCD display.
The phone is also expected to feature a dual camera setup at the back with a 13MP primary camera and a 2MP macro camera. The JioPhone 5G will run on Jio's native Pragati OS, which currently powers the JioPhone Next.
The JioPhone 5G is expected to launch under Rs. 12,000. It could be announced at the Annual General Meeting of Reliance Industries Limited and launched around Diwali this year, as was the case with the JioPhone Next last year. Currently no smartphone manufacturer offers a 5G smartphone in this price bracket. However, with the rising cost of internal smartphone components, it will be interesting to see how Jio handles this scenario.
