Former President and COO at Nintendo of America Reggie Fils-Aime is one of the most recognizable names in the games industry, and many people were disappointed to learn about his retirement from the company in 2019. After 13 years heading the North American division of the Japanese gaming giant, the Bronx native almost seemed to be a permanent feature of Nintendo.
The businessman did not disappear entirely from the gaming industry upon his retirement, however. Fils-Aime has continued to present at The Game Awards each year, having participated in the annual event since its creation in 2015. Less than a year after leaving Nintendo, GameStop announced that Fils-Aime would be joining its Board of Directors, a position which he held until June 2021. He also teamed up with video games journalist Harold Goldberg in April 2020 to co-host a seven-episode podcast called “Talking Games,” whose goal was to raise funds to mentor low-income New York City students impacted by the pandemic.

In July 2021, Fils-Aime announced that he would be writing a book called Disrupting the Game: From the Bronx to the Top of Nintendo. The book will discuss the lessons Fils-Aime learned being the son of Haitian immigrants and the leadership style that helped him prolong Nintendo’s success. Fils-Aime has revealed the cover of Disrupting the Game via his Twitter account and also shared the book’s new release date of May 3, 2022. It will retail for $27.99 on Amazon, and a less expensive digital version will be available for purchase as well.
