In November 2022, alongside Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II becoming the best-selling game of the year so far, the greater availability of PlayStation 5 consoles has led to 45% growth in video game hardware dollar sales when compared to November 2021.
As detailed by The NPD Group's Mat Piscatella, U.S. consumer spending as a whole in the world of video games reached $6.3 billion in November 2022, which itself was a 3% increase from the same time last year.
The PS5 was the best-selling console in the U.S. in both unit and dollar sales in the month and it remains the best-selling console of 2022 in dollar sales. Nintendo Switch, for now, is holding on as the best-selling console in units sold.
As for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, which became the fastest entry in the incredibly-well selling Call of Duty franchise to reach $1 billion, it was also the best-selling game of the month in the U.S. The latest Call of Duty was one of the four new games that broke into the top five best-selling games of the month alongside God of War Ragnarok, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, and Sonic Frontiers. Madden NFL 23 rounded out the top five.
The only other new game to crack the top 20 was Tactics Ogre: Reborn, which placed 17th. The full list of best-selling games in November 2022 is as follows;
