The logo for PlayStation‘s 30th anniversary could contain an image of the unannounced PlayStation 5 Pro.
Last week Dealabs user billbil-kun, who has a lengthy track record for leaking upcoming games and hardware, shared alleged information on the new console.
They said it will be announced “very soon” with the official announcement set to be made during the first half of September.
They also claimed to have access to the packaging design for the PS5 Pro, but because they can’t share copyrighted images they instead drew a sketch of the design.
The sketch showed that the main difference between the PS5 Pro and the current PS5 models is the addition of three black stripes across the middle of the console.
Now it looks like Sony may have accidentally confirmed the leak by including an illustration of the same ‘PS5 Pro’ design in its PlayStation 30th Anniversary announcement earlier today.
The logo does appear to show an unknown console, right in the middle (between the PS logo and the ’30’) which looks like a PS5 but has lines across the middle of it.
The standard PS5 Slim is also in the image, making it less likely that it’s just an unusally illustrated version of that console, and more likely that it’s a separate piece of hardware altogether.
Billbil-kun’s report last week suggested that the PS5 Pro appears to be slightly thicker than the PS5 Slim, but suggests that the design of the faceplates means it may still be compatible with existing PS5 Slim faceplates.
One thing they couldn’t yet confirm, however, is whether the PS5 Pro will have a disc drive, because the image they received showed a PS5 Pro without one.
It’s not clear, therefore, whether there will be two models of the PS5 Pro – one with a disc drive and one without one – or whether it will be a single digital-only edition with the option for players to buy a disc drive separately (as is the case for the digital-only PS5 Slim).
One theory offered by billbil-kun is that the console may ship without a disc drive in order
