Earlier this year it was reported that PlayStation would be merging its PS Plus and PS Now subscription services to create something that might well rival Xbox Game Pass. Labeled Project Spartacus, talk that Sony would be making an announcement started to ramp up at the start of the week. Rightly so, since as expected, PlayStation has officially confirmed what exactly Project Spartacus is, what it will include, and how much it is going to cost.
As expected, the service is made up of three tiers as detailed via a new PlayStation Blog post. PS Plus Essentials, PS Plus Extra, and PS Plus Premium. Essentials will pretty much be what PS Plus is right now, whereas Extra will include access to a library of more than 400 PS4 and PS5 games. Premium, which will be the most expensive tier of the three, will include all of that plus a library of PS1, PS2, and PSP games.

As for the cost, the Essentials tier will be $9.99 per month, Extra will be $14.99, and the highest priced Premium tier will be $17.99 per month. The tiers will cost $59.99, $99.99, and $119.99 respectively should you want to commit for an entire year and get a discount in the process. Since all three tiers will sit under the PS Plus banner, PS Now will presumably be retired when the new system launches this June, giving you a couple of months to decide which tier you're going to kick things off with.
The new system has been compared to Xbox Game Pass ever since reports of its reveal first emerged. There is one key difference though, and it's a big one. Even though two of the three tiers will include a vast library of games, just like Game Pass, new games will not be added on day one, a key draw for Game Pass
