Lyft users can now find, reserve, and pay for parking spaces without leaving the app.
Drivers can navigate to the "My Car" page and tap "Parking" to secure a spot near them or their destination—immediately or hours in advance.
Lyft is teaming up with parking reservation service SpotHero and local parking operators for the feature, which serves up your digital parking pass via QR code.
"It's like a hotel reservation," according to(Opens in a new window) the company's Parking FAQ section. Enter at any point after your start time, and leave before the reservation is over. "We'll give you a heads up before your time expires so you can extend your stay as needed," Lyft says.
Presumably, also like a hotel reservation, if the space has been booked by someone else directly after you, you'll need to get a move on or possibly incur additional fees. Lyft did not immediately respond to PCMag's request for comment.
Lyft Parking is available in select US locations, though the company doesn't specify which ones. You'll need to tap the steering wheel icon in your app to see if Parking is available near you, and how much it costs. (SpotHero currently covers more than 300 North American cities(Opens in a new window)),
Users are required to add their license plate number and other card details before booking.
Most people rely on Lyft to avoid worrying about parking. But this could come in handy for chauffeurs looking for somewhere to wait for their next customer, or for big events, like concerts and sporting events, that are too far away to take an expensive Lyft.
