A major chapter in the history of Marvel's Asgardian Gods has come to an end, as Odin is laid to rest and Loki finally earns the respect he has sought for — quite literally — his entire life. The relationship between Thor and his father Odin was at times fraught with drama, but it pales in comparison to the tumultuous ties between Odin and Loki, who have never quite seen eye-to-eye. But as of the events in Thor #24, the God of Mischief finally finds his father's approval in one important way.
A terrible battle in the past few issues of Thor has recently taken place in which Odin the All-Father was killed. As one of the most powerful begins in the Marvel universe, Odin's death sends shockwaves through Asgard and beyond. Though Thor eventually harnessed the Odinforce to defeat Magog (who was possessing Thor's hammer Mjolnir), both the hammer and Odin were lost during the battle. In a giant-sized issue, Thor #24 explores Odin's solemn funeral.

The funeral procession is a grand affair, attended by all of Asgard — and other beings as well. Iron Man, the Fantastic Four, the Silver Surfer, the Watcher, and even the Celestials observe Odin's body as it travels past beings magical and mundane. The issue takes a look back at previous adventures of Thor, Odin and Loki — and one exchange is particularly eye-opening. «Loki...my child who is both son and daughter,» says Odin in a memory.«I know you. I know everything you are. And I love you still.»
