LG Display is the first company to have its OLED panels receive 'Perfect Black' verification.
UL solutions, the global safety science and product testing company, evaluated LG Display's existing range of 42- to 97-inch OLED panels. The black levels were assessed in a 500 lux brightly-lit environment created in order to mimic that of a living room in broad daylight.
The results showed the panels achieved black levels of 0.15 nit(Opens in a new window). The standard set for Perfect Black is 0.24 nit, meaning they came in 40% lower than required to attain the verification.
LG Display explains this was made possible, "thanks to self-emissive pixels that can be controlled individually, LG Display’s OLED panels minimize light leakage and external light reflections by turning off pixels to achieve the perfect black and infinite contrast."
“Through UL Solutions’ objective and science-based assessment, LG Display’s OLED has been proven to be the first panel to deliver perfect black levels,” said Jin Min-kyu, Head of Life Display Promotion Division. We should expect to see LG Display adding the Perfect Black verification mark to all its 42-inch or larger OLED TVs in the near future.
