The upcoming Rainbow Six movie will be directed by Chad Stahelski, it’s been confirmed.
The Hollywood Reporter reports that the director of the John Wick films has signed on to helm the upcoming Paramount film.
It had already been confirmed back in 2018 that Paramount was working on two films based on the Tom Clancy universe.
The first of these, Without Remorse, was released on Amazon Prime Video in April 2021.
Without Remorse was considered an origin story for the character of John Clark, who was played by Michael B Jordan in the film.
Rainbow Six, then, will be considered a sequel of sorts, with Jordan once again portraying the role of John Clark.
Although Without Remorse was originally set for a theatrical release, Paramount delayed the film due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It was eventually acquired by Amazon Studios, and was released directly to Amazon Prime Video.
It’s reported that Paramount intents to release Rainbow Six theatrically, however, although no plot or release details have been revealed.
Rainbow Six began life as a Tom Clancy novel in 1998. The following year, US studio Red Storm Entertainment developed and published a tactical shooter based on Clancy’s book.
The video game series has since become arguably more popular than the book, with nine main entries released – the last being Rainbow Six Extraction in 2022.
Ubisoft has also been holding closed beta tests of its upcoming iOS and Android title Rainbow Six Mobile, which is due for full release later this year.
