There are so many types of Yokai in Japanese folklore and a fair number of them will appear to hunt you in Ikai. While some are more passive than others, they will not hesitate to pursue you once they detect you. You'll encounter both humanoid and beast-like creatures that are equally dangerous.

As you progress through the night, you'll return to the main shrine building where you'll meet the first beastly Yokai, the Nozuchi. It can be very aggressive, and you'll need to evade it constantly if you're to have any chance of completing the ritual and defeating the Yokai for good.
A creature born of transformation, usually of evil monks, the Nozuchi is a large snake-like Yokai that resembles a dark furry caterpillar. They tend to lurk in fields and grasslands where they can easily hide and hunt their prey. Because of their size, their diet is limited to small woodland creatures, which they're able to swallow whole.
Unfortunately, this does not deter them from attacking humans, which is bad news for the priestess. All it takes is one bite for the Nozuchi to kill you, so you'll want to keep out of its way.
Unlike the Kijo, the Nozuchi is much more tenacious and will pursue you through several locations. Your only option will be to keep fleeing from it until you can find a way back to the temple where its cursed item lies.
