If you drive around in an EV in Delhi, there's good news! Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal just came out with an announcement for EV owners that could help make their commute and journeys around the city. Over the next two months, the city will see 100 new charging stations. The CM has inaugurated a total of 11 EV charging stations on Tuesday alone and the numbers will increase over the upcoming month.
"Earlier, battery swapping points and charging stations were different but these have now been clubbed together. These 11 stations have 73 charging points. In the next two months, Delhi will get 100 charging stations," Kejriwal said. Most of these charging stations are being set up at Metro stations, which will enable people to leave their vehicles at the charging stations. Hence, while they take the Metro to their destinations, the vehicles get charged and are ready to go by the time they return.
With these many EV stations, EV drivers will get to charge their vehicles conveniently. As more and more EVs ply on the roads, drivers will need fast charging to quickly top-up battery for a quick refill.
Recently, the EV market saw the arrival of the Hero Vida electric scooter, which comes with dual charging modes. The scooter can make use of Ather's fast charging network for a quick fill up while on the move. When the scooter is parked at home, the rider can take out the battery and charge it separately. Ather's own scooters rely on the fast charging network while Ola is yet to ready its Hypercharge network.
In other news, Ola Electric is expected to announce a cheaper variant of its electric scooter, the Ola S1. Expected to be called the Ola S1 Lite, this one could come with a shorter range and have a starting price of less than Rs.
