During the version 2.8 livestream, Genshin Impact officially revealed the upcoming outfits for Diluc and Fischl arriving in Genshin Impact's 2.8 update. Though both Character Outfits had been leaked before their official announcement, the livestream provided a unique perspective of the Mondstadt characters' new costumes, with cutscenes featuring each character flaunting their new outfit. Diluc's outfit is dedicated to his heroic persona, the Darknight Hero. Fischl's new outfit is a ceremonial outfit fit for a Princess, including a regal crown adorned with bows.
Despite Genshin Impact having close to fifty playable characters, the game features very few Character Outfits, or skins, for its characters. In early 2022, Genshin Impact added alternate outfits for Jean, Amber, Mona, and Rosaria to abide by Chinese government regulations regarding «decency standards». Barbara, Jean, Keqing, and Ningguang each received Themed Character Outfits available in the Character Outfit Shop. In addition to the shop, Barbara's Summer-themed outfit was previously available during the limited-time Echoing Tales event and Ningguang's formal gown was previously attainable during the Fleeting Colors in Flight event.
