The fifth episode of The Last of Us TV series will be availble to stream two days earlier than usual in the US.
According to the official The Last of Us Twitter account, Episode 5 will be available on Friday, February 10 at 9pm.
The Last of Us typically airs at 9pm ET on a Sunday in the US, with the UK getting it at the same time (2am GMT on Monday morning).
As such, the moving of this week’s episode results in it being available two days earlier than usual.
Although no reason has been given for the earlier date, it’s likely to avoid a clash with the Super Bowl, which also airs this Sunday and traditionally dominates US televion ratings. Last year’s Super Bowl was watched by 99.18 million people in the US.
It’s not yet clear if Sky, which shows The Last of Us in the UK via Sky Atlantic and its NOW streaming service, will follow suit by also moving the show two days forward.
The series has seen progressively growing ratings with each new episode. The ratings for Episode 4, which aired last night, have yet to be confirmed, but last week it was reported that Episode 3 had the highest figures yet.
The third episode of the adaptation attracted 6.4 million viewers on the Sunday night on which it aired, based on Nielsen and HBO data.
The viewing figure was up 12% from the previous week’s 5.7 million viewers and up 37% from the first episode’s 4.7 million viewers.
Last month, HBO said it had renewed The Last of Us for a second season.
