Elden Ring players are probably familiar with the game's mysterious floating jellyfish, but one fan has proposed a theory regarding their origin that is strange and unsettling. FromSoftware's latest endeavor is one that is filled with even more granular and intricate details than usual, with players spending hours delving deep into the secrets and history of The Lands Between. There have even been countless Elden Ring lore explanation videos released to help fans better understand the opaque origins of the game's world.
As players traverse Elden Ring's massive open world, they will likely come across jellyfish NPCs. These creatures are some of the more docile in the game, as they usually will not attack right away and remain aloof until the player strikes them. Very little is revealed about these jellyfish, but the player is able to obtain the Jellyfish Spirit Ashes quite early on, which allows them to bring one of them into battle with them as an ally. This summoned jellyfish may seem like any other, but a quick look at its description (a source of lore than some Elden Ring players may miss due to localization) reveals that the jellyfish is a girl named Aurelia who is "prone to tears" and searching "for her distant home."

This oddly familiar description might already have some fans raising their eyebrows, but a more detailed theory comes by way of Reddit user FreeWatercressSalad (via Games Radar). In this theory, FreeWatercressSalad references the Mountaintop Cemetery area in the Mountaintops of the Giants region, wherein the player can find two smaller headstones for Aurelia and her sister, Aurielette, which read that they "never saw the stars."
