Techies as a hero in Dota 2 is having an identity crisis, particularly when it comes to item builds. The hero got drastically changed in the most recent patch, and players haven't quite figured out how to adapt to it yet. Fortunately, pros have been experimenting and have concocted a pretty solid build for the hero.
In the past, players would rush mana items and an Aghanim's Scepter to enhance the damage of Remote Mines, but this playstyle has been rendered obsolete by the Dota 2 7.31 update. Techies have moved on from focusing heavily on defensive minelaying to being a massive source of AOE damage and a strong pickoff hero. Because of this and other direct item changes in 7.31, Techies needs a new item build.

The new item build revolves around damage output in Dota 2; Techies is capable of an absurd amount of DPS but requires a few items to get to that point. To get that damage, items that provide mana, damage amplification, and direct damage are frequently built. Occasionally, some survivability items are built to ensure that damage can be output against enemy lineups that can disrupt Techies' combo or survive an initial burst.
Here's a list of the most consistently performing item builds for Techies thus far in the newest Dota 2 patch. Note that as with everything else Dota 2, situations can and will come up where alternatives perform better.
