It's almost the holiday season, which means it's time for another round of Christmas movies. One such upcoming holiday film is Violent Night starring David Harbour as a murderous Santa Claus, and it is anything but traditional.
Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for the movie, which depicts a beer-drinking Santa Claus played by Harbour stepping in to save the day. A team of mercenaries breaks into the home of a wealthy family on Christmas Eve, taking everyone hostage and making demands. When Santa comes down the chimney, he steps in to save the day, delivering «season's beatings» to the criminals to save the family.
Violent Night hails from production company 87North, which previously produced the celebrated action movies John Wick, Nobody, Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2, and Hobbs & Shaw. The first trailer shows there will be plenty of action; one memorable sequence shows Santa whacking a foe with a Christmas star through the eye.
In addition to Harbour, the movie stars John Leguizamo (John Wick), Cam Gigandet (Without Remorse), Alex Hassell (Cowboy Bebop), Alexis Louder (The Tomorrow War), Edi Patterson (The Righteous Gemstones), and Beverly D'Angelo (National Lampoon’s Vacation franchise). Tommy Wirkola (Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters) directs Violent Night from an original script by Sonic the Hedgehog writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller.
Violent Night comes to theaters on December 2.
