A new live-action Casper series is in the works for Peacock. The famous «Friendly Ghost» originated as an affable apparition in a series of 55 theatrical cartoons produced by Famous Studios between 1945 and 1959. Casper has also appeared in comic books published by Harvey Comics since 1952, who became the sole owner of the character in 1959. Casper appeared in five animated television shows – Matty's Funday Funnies,The New Casper Cartoon Show, Casper and the Angels, The Spooktacular New Adventures of Casper, andCasper's Scare School.
Casper's most famous appearance was the 1995 live-action feature film from Universal Pictures. Starring Malachi Pearson as the voice of Casper along with Christina Ricci, Bill Pullman, Cathy Moriarty, and Eric Idle, the movie presented a significantly darker take on the character in comparison to past comics and cartoons by addressing Casper's death, which provided the Friendly Ghost with a tragic backstory. After that, Casper appeared in four direct-to-video and made-for-TV follow-up films. Now, a new incarnation is on its way.
