Minecraft Live might be over, but it left us with a bunch of great things to look forward to. Chief among them is the new community-voted mob, the Sniffer, but there’s also another critter coming sometime in 2023 that people should be equally excited for.
Camels are coming to Minecraft. Yes, these single-humped desert-dwelling beasts of burden will arrive in Minecraft with the coming 1.2 update alongside hanging signs, functional bookshelves, and craftable bamboo. Camels are somewhat more interactive than any of those, and they have some interesting features over Minecraft’s other rideable critter, the horse.

For starters, camels can fit two passengers instead of just one. They’re also really tall, so smaller mobs such as zombies can’t quite reach a camel’s passengers. But best of all, camels can fly. Or more accurately, they can dash for short distances, which allows them to hop over small gaps like rivers and ravines. Although horses are overall faster, the ability of camels to hop over obstacles means they could offer greater mobility. Camels can also be bred to make itty bitty camels by using the cactus block.
As for the other three items, hanging signs will have different chains depending on the sign being hanged, chiseled bookshelves can store four to six books (including enchanted books), and bamboo blocks can be crafted from bamboo and used to make the bamboo raft. It’s basically the same as a regular raft, only it looks a little different.
