It's no secret that the buzz around Blizzard has waned in recent years. From the various scandals that have rocked Activision Blizzard since the Pandemic to the lukewarm response to the games themselves, we've seen the once galvanized fanbase somewhat muted in recent years.
However, BlizzCon is back in person for the first time since the Pandemic, and it seems poised to send a jolt through the community more than ever before.
But what does Blizzard need to announce to recapture some of that Blizzard magic? I think it depends on the individual for sure. I'm struggling to find something that would really excite me other than a Starcraft revival, maybe a reversal on the Overwatch 2canning of its PvE Hero Mode, which was one of the only reasons I was still excited about the hero shooter when it launched. Incredibly fat chance of that happening, but hey — one can dream.
What I'd really love to see is more information about the upcoming survival game that Blizzard is working on. Will we learn anything about the game itself like it's name, mechanics, what the new IP is — anything? Let's hope.
Being the first BlizzCon back in Anaheim for the first time in years, the focus might also be more on this fact, bringing the community together for the first time since The Before Times. Robin gave her predictions earlier this week on a few of the titles, from Retail WoW to the possibility of World of Warcraft Cataclysm Classic being announced. The latter sounds pretty exciting as someone who never experienced Cataclysm when it happened originally (I was too busy romping around in Middle-earth).
