A FromSoftware job listing mentions needing someone to make mech designs, further suggesting that a new Armored Core is in the works.
Given it’s been nearly 10 years since the last Armored Core game, plus the success of the Dark Souls series and Elden Ring, you’d be forgiven for assuming studio FromSoftware had left its mech shooter series behind.
However, there has been speculation that the studio is returning to it with a brand new entry. Back in January, someone claimed to have seen gameplay of a new Armored Core via a consumer survey and uploaded some convincing looking screenshots.
More recently, a job listing for a character designer at FromSoftware was spotted on the studio’s website and it says that the role involves creating mech designs. In fact, having experience in designing mechs is considered a requirement.
It is always possible that FromSoftware is working on an entirely original project that also involves mechs. After all, it’s made other mech games unrelated to Armored Core before, such as Metal Wolf Chaos.
Plus, the job description makes no mention of the Armored Core series. All it says is that whoever gets the role will ‘be in charge of a wide range of designs related to characters and mecha’ (via Google Translate).
However, FromSoftware’s Hidetaka Miyazaki told IGN all the way back in 2016 that a new Armored Core was in development. So, this listing is most likely related to Armored Core 6 or whatever it ends up being called.
While he’s best known for being the director of the Dark Souls series and Elden Ring, Miyazaki got his start as a planner for Armored Core. He later directed Armored Core 4 and its sequel, Armored Core: For Answer.
