Apple has finally produced a solution for the speaker problems facing owners of the very expensive Studio Display monitor.
Since its launch back in March, the Studio Display has suffered with audio problems ranging from the sound being distorted or playing too quickly, to simply cutting out completely. As MacRumors reports(Opens in a new window), Apple confirmed the problem by way of a memo to its authorized service providers a few days ago, which also stated it's a software problem unrelated to the hardware.
Sure enough, a firmware update has now been released which "resolves an audio issue with Studio Display," according to the release notes(Opens in a new window). The firmware update is still classed as version 15.5, just like the one released two months ago, but this latest release uses the build number 19F80.
The latest firmware can be installed on a Studio Display by connecting it to a Mac and then navigating to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Software Update. If the firmware is available to you, click "Update Now" and it will start downloading. Once complete, click "Restart" in the notification that appears and the installation process will begin. If everything goes to plan, all those sound problems should be a thing of the past.
