An animated revival of the raunchy '80s and '90s Fox sitcom Married… with Children featuring the original cast is reportedly in development and is being actively pitched to networks and streaming services. Citing unnamed sources, Deadline was the first to report.
Family Guy executive producer Alex Carter is reportedly attached to write and showrun, with Fox, Hulu, and Peacock currently considered the frontrunner destinations. Hulu and Peacock currently stream the original series. Sony Pictures Television, which owns and distributes the original series, has been working on the animated project for over a year and got principals Katey Sagal (The Conners), Ed O'Neill (Modern Family), Christina Applegate (Dead to Me), and David Faustino (Dragons: Race to the Edge ) onboard before shopping it around.
Married… with Children started in 1987 and ran for 11 seasons. Created by Michael G. Moye and Ron Leavitt, the intentionally low-brow show follows a dysfunctional Chicago family.
Sagal recently signed on to star in another Fox-originated revival that will hit Hulu in 2023. Back in February this year, it was announced that nearly the full cast and creative team behind Futurama would be returning for a revival--Sagal, Billy West, Tress MacNeille, Maurice LaMarche, Lauren Tom, Phil LaMarr, and David Herman were all confirmed when originally announced. In March, John DiMaggio--the sole holdout--closed a deal to reprise his signature voice role of Bender.
Other recent revivals in the works include Justified: City Primeval, Jackass, and The Office. Today, Amazon Prime Video kicks off a revival season of The Kids in the Hall.
