has been tapped to direct a new action movie for . Following the release of Snyder’s Rebel Moon movies, the 300 and Watchmen director is now working on a new, still untitled action movie about the Los Angeles Police Department for the streaming service.
Snyder is co-writing the movie with Kurt Johnstad. He also will serve as a producer alongside his wife, Deborah Snyder, and Wesley Coller.
Specific plot details remain under wraps at this time; however, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie is an action thriller that is “described as being set in the high-stakes world of life and death and centered on an elite LAPD unit that is relentlessly confronted with the unforgiving collision of law and morality.” Snyder was once attached to direct S.W.A.T., the 2003 crime thriller movie starring Colin Farrell and Samuel L.
Jackson; however, according to The Hollywood Reporter, he dropped out after he wanted to make an R-rated film and the studio insisted that it be PG-13. “Years ago, Dan [Lin, Netflix’s head of film] and I had a conversation about our shared interest in telling a compelling and visceral character-driven story set within the intense, complex and captivating landscape of the LAPD.
It’s a conversation that has stuck with me,” Snyder said. “So, as you would expect, I’m very excited to now have the opportunity to partner with Dan, along with the rest of my amazing partners at Netflix, in developing this story.” Along with the two Rebel Moon movies (and their extended director’s cuts), Snyder previously made 2021’s Army of the Dead for Netflix.
