Oscar nominee Drew Goddard confirmed that production on Amazon MGM Studios’ long-awaited movie starring Ryan Gosling has officially wrapped.
The project will be based on Andy Weir’s 2021 sci-fi novel of the same name. It is expected to arrive in theaters on March 20, 2026.
During a recent interview, Goddard revealed that the upcoming film has a similar tone to Ridley Scott’s Matt Damon-led movie The Martian, which Goddard adapted from Weir’s 2011 novel.
This won’t be the first time that Gosling will portray an astronaut, as he previously starred in the 2018 biopic First Man. “If you like ‘The Martian,’ I suspect you’re really going to like what we’re cooking up with ‘Hail Mary,’” Gosling said. “Chris and Phil and I have known each other for decades now, and I love their work.
And then obviously, Ryan Gosling is one of the staggering talents of our time.” Besides Gosling, Project Hail Mary will also star Oscar nominee Sandra Hüller (Anatomy of a Fall, The Zone of Interest), Milana Vayntrub (This Is Us, Werewolves Within), Bastian Antonio Fuentes (Jurassic World Dominion), Isla McRae (The Christmas Quest), and James Wright (How to Train A Princess).
