Report: BioWare is now less than 100 people strong

Developer BioWare now boasts fewer than 100 members of staff. That's according to a report from Bloomberg, which claims that the number of workers employed by the studio has more than halved in the last two years.

Back then, BioWare boasted over 200 members of staff. Part of this rapid decline in headcount was the news last week that the company was laying off some staff as it slimmed down to focus on the next entry in the Mass Effect series.

Workers impacted by the shift in strategy include writer Trick Weekes and producer Jenn Cheverie. Part of this shift also involved BioWare staff being leant off to other Electronic Arts studios.

It appears that workers were under the impression that being loaned off to other developers was a temporary measure rather than the permanent positions they appeared to be.  "Given this stage of development, we don’t require support from the full studio," wrote BioWare general manager Gary McKay when announcing the changes at the studio.  "We have incredible talent here at BioWare, and so we have worked diligently over the past few months to match many of our colleagues with other teams at EA that had open roles that were a strong fit."
