Superhero fatigue has become a hot-button topic. Between Marvel flops, the death of the DC Extended Universe, and the destruction of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, superhero fatigue has become one of the go-to reasons to justify why these comic book adaptations failed.
creator is going the opposite way, arguing superhero fatigue is not a “real thing” as long as the stories are unique. “I don’t think superhero fatigue is a real thing, but I do think that the genre of superhero storytelling has become so ubiquitous that it’s gotten to a point where it’s not fresh and it’s not new,” Kirkman told Variety. “You can’t just be a superhero show and not have anything special about you anymore because I think the novelty has worn off.
But that’s really exciting to me, because now it means that everyone is so familiar with superheroes that you can push things in interesting directions.” Invincible is based on Kirkman’s comic book series of the same name he co-created with Cory Walker and Ryan Ottley.
Developed for Prime Video by Kirkman, Invincible follows Mark Grayson (voiced by Steven Yeun), a 19-year-old who inherits his father’s superpowers and tries to become Earth’s greatest defender.
