Grok AI iOS app launched with real-time information, image generation features and more- All details

xAI has introduced the Grok AI chatbot as a standalone iOS app in the US, marking a significant development for the platform.

This app, which is currently in its beta phase, offers the same capabilities as the version integrated into X. Users can access real-time information, ask questions, and generate images through the app, similar to the chatbot's features on X.xAI began testing the Grok app for iOS in December across several countries, though details on an Android release remain unclear.

Initially, Grok was available only to X Premium subscribers, but the service has since been expanded to all users, aligning it with other popular free AI chatbots like OpenAI's ChatGPT, Anthropic's Claude, and Google's Gemini.Also read: AI comes down from the cloud as chips get smarterThe release of the Grok app follows xAI's recent efforts to develop additional platforms, including a dedicated website for Grok, which is still marked with a "coming soon" message.

One or two lumps of annoyance in your morning coffee? Okay, here's one. You'll need to link to a PlayStation Network account to play The Last Of Us Part II on PC, say Sony. The requirement was reported by Video Games Chronicle, and sure enough, the Steam page for the "Remastered" version of the third-person fungus fighter includes a footnote in the game description that confirms it in plain language - "Account for PlayStation Network required". For a lot of people this is a minor nuisance, for others it more likely means that the game won't be on sale in your country at all. Sony's reasons for enforcing the requirement remain obscure.

As a few of you might know, each Sunday at 4pm GMT I run Booked For The Week - a regular chat with a selection of cool industry folks about what they're reading, what they're hoping to read next, and what books they recommend. The very secret goal of the column is for the guests to name every book ever written. It's a task every single one has failed miserably at with two notable exceptions. One was Dan Griliopoulos, who listed 400 books in a document before he got bored and gave up - a heroic, if ultimately futile effort. The other was Warren Spector back in November, who not only gave me the longest and most detailed reply I'd had before or since, but also followed up several times to add more books to the list.

TikTok's time in the US may be ticking to a close as it makes a last stand in the Supreme Court, though Trump now says he 'opposes banning' it
TikTok's lawyers will today appear before the US Supreme Court in a final attempt to prevent a ban of the platform. Last year the US Congress passed a law ordering that the social media company either be split from its Chinese owner, ByteDance, or blocked within the US entirely, with the rationale being that it can be used as a tool of political manipulation and espionage. TikTok disagrees, says it has been unfairly targeted, and any ban violates the free speech of its American userbase.
