FromSoftware parent Kadokawa to expand publishing business

The parent of Elden Ring maker From Software, Kadokawa Corporation, has said that it wants to develop its publishing capacity.

This comes via the company's latest financial report, in which the firm said that it was planning to develop "a structure to expand the scope" of its in-house publishing business for console and PC titles.

Furthermore, Kadokawa said that it was hoping to maximise the lifetime value of games such as Elden Ring. For the first half of the current financial year – the six months ending September 30th – the company said that sales of FromSoftware's action RPG smash hit had once again "accelerated" on the back of the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. That came out on June 21st.

Elden Ring has shifted over 25 million copies since its February 2022 debut.

Despite the positive performance of Elden Ring and Shadow of the Erdtree, Kadokawa does note that its sales for its games business will be lower than anticipated due to project delays and forecast revisions.

For the first six months of 2024/25, Kadokawa reported net sales rose 32.8 per cent to hit Y18.1 billion ($117.7 million), while operating profit shot up 50.8 per cent to hit Y6.1 billion ($39.7 million).
