Sigh… here we go again. We just got through a major brouhaha involving Sony requiring PSN linking for Helldivers 2 after initially not asking for it at launch, which led to a major backlash and review bombing campaign and, eventually, Sony reversing course. While some would say the reaction was rather overblown, one of the issues was that a number of countries in the world simply don’t have access to PSN, which led to Helldivers 2 being delisted in those regions (in fact, even Sony’s after reversal on the issue, they’re still delisted).
Well, Sony has another big PC release coming next week – Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut. Now, developer Sucker Punch has gone on record to assure players that PSN won’t be required for the main single-player campaign, only the game’s Legends multiplayer mode, so that means there won’t have to be any delisting, right? Not so fast! According to SteamDB, Ghost of Tsushima has now been delisted in a long list of regions just like Helldivers 2 was. Other storefronts are also reportedly pulling Ghost of Tsushima from sale in certain regions.

On the one hand, requiring some sort of account linking for multiplayer is extremely common and at least with Ghost of Tsushima, Sony isn’t springing the PSN requirement after the fact like they did with Helldivers 2. On the other hand, even if Sony is stuck on requiring PSN for PC multiplayer, it feels like there ought to be some better solution here. Sony needs to give more people in more places the ability to sign up, or failing that, perhaps they could release a single-player-only version of GoT in some regions. Something other than doing this old dance again.
