One of the most universally hated quests in is that to help Oskar Fevras recover from his possession. It's a quest that technically starts in Act One, when players can help the troubled artist escape the Zhentarim beneath Waukeen's Rest. But the real trouble doesn't start until Act Three, when players reach the Jannath family estate and find the place haunted. Oskar is betrothed to the lady of the house, yet his obsession over his former love has led to her ghost taking over the entire mansion.
The quest itself is interesting enough, but completing it requires the player's party to navigate through one of the most frustrating and tedious areas in the game, full of invisible ghosts and painful traps. It's so bad that many players will simply skip the quest, rather than save Oskar to obtain his reward. But there are a few tactics that can improve the experience, and make helping this tortured painter less of a torturous experience.
The first thing to recognize about the quest to free Oskar is that it is not necessary to explore most of Jannath Estate while it's still haunted. There will be time after the quest to loot the gold and gear, so there's no need to search through each room to open the various chests and safes. The easiest way to do this quest involves making a beeline to the only rooms that need to be visited to complete it: the bedroom, where lady Jannath and possessed Oskar are located, and the atelier on the top floor.
If players have already retrieved Torch of Revocation, they can proceed to the atelier immediately and burn the painting. This will skip the first part of the quest and potentially cut down on the time it takes, though it does take some level of meta-gaming.
The first stop needs to be the bedroom, where players will find out Oskar is possessed and start this part of the quest. Next stop is the atelier to find Oskar's cursed painting, which must be burned using the Torch of Revocation, obtainable from the Mystic Carrion, who needs the
