WB Games is focusing on core franchises like Mortal Kombat going forward, but that may not include Mortal Kombat 1. According to insider FateUnknown on the Mortal Kombat leaks subreddit, a third Kombat Pack and second story expansion have allegedly been cancelled.
This seemingly occurred recently, with Kombat Pack 2 marking the final slate of DLC characters. Though a Kameo Fighter or “two” were worked on and may still be released, they’re unsure if this is actually happening. As for why both were shelved, it’s reportedly due to poor sales of Khaos Reigns, which launched on September 24th.
As the first story expansion for Mortal Kombat 1, it received mixed reviews for its short length, pricing, and average story-telling (check out our thoughts here). Those who purchased it received Kombat Pack 2 with three characters- Sektor, Cyrax, and Noob Saibot. Ghostface was recently added with the T-1000 from Terminator 2: Judgment Day and Conon the Barbarian remaining. Stay tuned for further updates on their launch dates in the coming months.
