Sorry, Tifa fans. Seemingly in response to articles like this one, Square Enix has resisted the assertion that one or more party members might be «best» for ex-SOLDIER Cloud Strife in Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth. After quotes from an interview he conducted with Inverse in December went viral, director Naoki Hamaguchi says it was neither his nor anyone at Square Enix's intention to influence players' interpretations.
The December interview had Hamaguchi stating that Aerith was «this sort of sisterly character pulling Cloud along and encouraging him», which didn't go over well with the legions of rabbid of Aerith-stans in the community. Speaking to the dual English-Japanese outlet Automaton (thanks, IGN), Hamaguchi suggested that this misunderstanding might have come from the differences between the two languages:
«As creators, we will continue to convey [the relationships between our characters] through our content. For example, no one will make official statements about who Cloud likes, who Aerith likes, and so on.»

Perhaps, in another lifetime?
Are you convinced by this statement, explicit backtracking on the popular and correct position that Tifa is, in fact, best? Let us know where you stand in the comments section below.

Regardless of what they say, it's obviously Tifa, for so many reasons.
They probably don’t want crazy fans going after the voice actresses even more. There’s always a few whackos that will take these shipping wars to a whole new level
