Daring to do what Square Enix no longer cares to, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, from developer Sandfall and publisher Kepler Interactive, immediately turned heads with its almost-unheard-of combination of AAA production values and turn-based combat. We've only seen a bit of the game, and it's not out for another three months; it's never too early to start on a live-action film adaptation, though, ey?
A report from Variety (thanks, IGN) reveals that Sandfall has partnered with Story Kitchen (a media company founded by the producer responsible for the recent Sonic trilogy of films to develop a live-action adaptation of the game. No further details were forthcoming regarding the film's casting or expected release window.
In a dark fantasy world dominated by the Paintress, a being with the Death Note-like ability to kill every one of a certain age by painting it in the sky, it's definitely cool-sounding, and the Belle Époque-inspired aesthetic is sure to class up just about anything. they're really running before they can walk. Hope it works for them but if this game gets anything less than an 85-90 with the amount of hype it's getting. The devs will be in for a bad time.
