Although no new information has been revealed since the announcement back in February, there is still a lot for fans to be excited for. On top of getting to explore the Kalos region in a different time period, there is a beloved gameplay gimmick that is finally returning after many years.
One beloved returning feature from in is Mega Evolution from Gen 6. Numerous Pokémon got immensely powerful brand-new forms in the original games, and many fans are eagerly awaiting to see which Pokémon get Mega forms in. However, there is one specific trio of Pokémon that absolutely need to get Mega Evolutions in this upcoming spin-off.
Ever since, starter Pokémon have been able to use whatever brand-new gimmick is introduced in their respective game. The Alolan starters can use Z moves, the Galarian starters get unique Dynamax forms, and pretty much any Pokémon can Terastalize in . However, Chesnaught, Delphox, and Greninja were never able to Mega Evolve despite debuting in the same game.

Not having the Kalos starters Mega Evolve in their own game really is a missed opportunity, as it would've allowed Game Freak to truly give the three of them a chance to shine. With only older Pokémon receiving Mega forms, their presence overshadows the starters and many of the other Pokémon that were introduced in the Kalos region. Considering the fact that will likely be including cut content from the original mainline games, hopefully it'll give the Gen 6 starters the Mega Evolutions they desperately need.
