Only Murders in the Building’s Meryl Streep Thanked Creator for Romantic Scene With Martin Short

The showrunner of Hulu’s Emmy-winning series,, recently revealed that actress expressed her gratitude toward him after she filmed a with co-actor. Both actors have been engulfed in dating rumors since January 2024 after they appeared at the Golden Globes. Since then, Streep and Short have been spotted at numerous outings together but have not confirmed anything yet.

John Hoffman, the showrunner of Only Murders in the Building, recently disclosed a heartfelt interaction he shared with Meryl Streep.

While talking to Decider about the show as the Season 4 finale nears, Hoffman revealed how Streep was smitten by the romantic scene between her and Martin Short and thanked him. He told the outlet, “I remember one night we were shooting on the ferry in Episode 5 of Season 3. We shot until about 2 in the morning on the most gorgeous night in Manhattan.”

Hoffman further recalled how Streep was all teary-eyed as she waited for him to wrap the filming. He stated, “I got off to gangplank there and Meryl was waiting and she had tears in her eyes and she said, ‘I just had to wait here for you to get off the boat to say thank you.’ And I was like, ‘What?’ and she said, ‘I just got to play a scene I really thought that the likes of which I wouldn’t have a chance to do. To play romantic scenes at this age with this band in this way, it’s just the greatest thing ever.'”

The showrunner asserted that Meryl Streep’s words made him feel “like the luckiest guy in the world.” He wished for the audience to shower the on-screen couple of Streep and Short with more love. Hoffman added, “I kept on thinking like, ‘I hope the world falls in love with this couple the way we all are.'”
