Intel Arc Test Suggests It May Struggle To Beat Nvidia RTX 3070

There's a lot of uncertainty with the graphics card market, and since the latter parts of 2020, there doesn't seem to be an end in sight. While it seems that Nvidia and AMD prices are starting to come back down, the shortages are still raging on. Alongside this, Intel has been looking to release its own range of GPU products, and while no one really knows how it will stack up alongside the competition, there's a chance it could beat out of some of the market's top-end cards. Or perhaps not.

According to a recent report from Tom's Hardware, which cites a test from Geekbench.com, the upcoming Intel Arc may not be quite as powerful as the Nvidia RTX 3070, which suggests the opposing narrative to what was being bandied around for a while now. While this is just one test, it does appear to be the most recent, and the results suggest that it might not be able to best one of the top-end products from «team green.» It's possible that the Arc could be as much as «40%» slower than the 3070, and that an OpenCL score of 85,448 indicates it might not be the best choice for gaming.

However, it's important to say at this stage that this is just one test, and that the graphics card is still sometime away from being released. Nevertheless, given that the Intel Arc was touted as an RTX 3070 contender, at least according to a benchmark test from last month, it would be disappointing if it turned out to not be the case. Given what's been seen recently, it seems that Intel's card could still offer up something special, but it's hard to say until it actually gets released.
