Fallout 4 is getting a free upgrade for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC
Falllout 4 will be getting a free current-gen upgrade next year, Bethesda has announced.
The update, which will be coming to Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and PC in 2023, will include a number of new features for improved performance.
According to a blog post on the official Fallout website, the free update will include ” performance mode features for high frame rates, quality features for 4K resolution gameplay, bug fixes and even bonus Creation Club content”.
Fallout 4 was enhanced for Xbox One X last generation, which enabled the game to run at 4K and 30 frames per second. The Xbox Series X/S is able to run the game with an ‘FPS boost’ setting enabled, but while this increases the frame rate to 60fps, it also reportedly drops the resolution to 1080p.
It’s hoped that the upcoming update will make it possible to play the game with both resolution and frame rate enhanced, rather than one or the other.
Also announced was a 25th Anniversary Bundle for Fallout 76, including a Vault Boy portrait, a Shooting Target Suite and Lincloln’s Repeater Lever Action Skin.
The 25th Anniversary Bundle can be claimed from October 27 until December 27 as a perk for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members, or from November 2 until February 2 for Amazon Prime Gaming subscribers.
Fallout debuted in 1997 and the most recent mainline series entry, 2015’s Fallout 4, is also its best-selling one, having shipped 12 million copies worldwide for launch day alone according to its publisher.
The most recent game in the series was 2018’s online multiplayer title Fallout 76. Its Expeditions update was released in September, introducing repeatable story-based missions for groups of up to four players set in post-nuclear Pittsburgh.
